🛒 Bitrefill Hackathon – Building Fam-Fi with My Brother
What a pleasure it was to work side-by-side with my brother during the first Bitrefill Virtual Hackathon. Together, we built Fam-Fi, a family-oriented finance app that helps parents reward their children for completing chores—by letting them earn XP and exchange it for real-world gift cards using Bitrefill.
👨👩👧👦 How Fam-Fi Works
Fam-Fi makes financial responsibility fun and collaborative for families. Here's how it works:
- Parents create a family account and share an invite code with their children.
- Chores are assigned to each child, each with an XP value.
- Children complete chores, and XP is awarded after parent approval.
- Parents stock the reward shop with Bitrefill gift cards from their account.
- Children redeem XP for real-world gift cards in the shop.
It’s a fun, gamified way to teach kids the value of effort and reward—while introducing them to modern tools like crypto and e-commerce.
🛠️ Tools We Used
- Next.js – For building the frontend and routing
- Supabase – Realtime database and authentication
- Tailwind CSS – Utility-first styling
- Farcaster – To integrate social identity and make it web3-native
- Bitrefill – For creating the gift card reward system
💡 Reflections
This hackathon wasn’t just a technical challenge—it was a bonding experience. Building something meaningful with my brother and shipping it in just a few days felt incredibly rewarding.
We’re excited to continue working on Fam-Fi and possibly bring it to more families looking to introduce better financial literacy through simple tech and crypto-powered rewards.
