How I Built a Replica Fashion Photo Aggregator with Flask & Discord

In 2023, my younger brother came to me with an idea.

He's passionate about fashion and, still in education, was particularly immersed in the world of replica clothing—commonly referred to as “reps.” Replica fashion is a controversial topic, often sparking debate over the ethics of purchasing and wearing counterfeit garments.

To buy these items from Chinese sellers, he had to use a reshipping service. At the time, the most popular option was a now-defunct platform called Pandabuy. Pandabuy allowed users to view past purchases from other customers—an essential feature in a market where quality varies drastically. Near-perfect replicas were highly sought after, and user-uploaded photos helped separate the good from the bad.

However, access to these images was locked behind a steep subscription fee. My brother, like many others, would borrow a friend’s account just to see the photos. That’s when the idea clicked:

Could I build a platform that gives everyone access to these images— without the paywall?

The Build

I quickly spun up a Flask server and integrated it with a custom Discord bot. The bot allowed users to query specific items, and behind the scenes, the server used session headers, cookies, and login credentials from a single premium account to bypass the image restriction.

In short, it pulled the “quality photos” directly and served them to users, skipping the subscription barrier entirely.

With zero advertising and a clean, ad-free experience, the platform gained traction fast. Within a few months, we had [X,000+] unique users and had aggregated [X,000+] high-quality product images.

Eventually, I sold the project to an established developer in the replica fashion community and stepped away to focus on my A-level exams.
